1. What is Teen Patti (And What is It Called in English)?

In Hindi, "Teen" translates to Three, and "Patti" translates to Cards (or leaves). So "Teen Patti" literally means "Three Cards".

In English-speaking international circles, the game is commonly called:

• Indian Poker: Because of the intense bluffing and raise-or-fold betting dynamics.
• Flash or Flush: An older colonial-era name referencing the 3-card flush mechanic.
• Three-Card Brag: The historic 18th-century British card game from which Teen Patti directly evolved.

2. How Many Packs & How Cards Are Divided

Standard Teen Patti uses strictly one single pack of 52 playing cards. Unlike 13-card Indian Rummy, Teen Patti does NOT use jokers in its standard classic format.

Before the cards are dealt, every player puts a pre-agreed minimum amount into the center of the table. This is called the Boot Amount (similar to an 'ante' in poker). All boot amounts form the starting pot.

3. Turn-by-Turn Game Flow: Boot, Blind, Seen & Chaal

Once 3 cards are dealt face-down to each player, action moves clockwise around the table starting from the player to the left of the dealer. On your turn, you make one critical decision: Do you look at your cards or play blind?

Playing Blind

A "Blind" player chooses not to look at their cards. They place their bet based purely on luck and table pressure. The massive advantage: A Blind player only pays 1x the current stake.

Playing Seen (Chaal)

A "Seen" player picks up their cards, looks at them, and decides whether to play or fold (pack). Because a Seen player knows their hand strength, they are penalized by the rules: A Seen player must pay 2x the Blind player's bet to stay in the hand.

A hand ends in one of two ways:

1. All Opponents Fold (Pack): If every other player at the table folds their cards, the last remaining player wins the entire pot automatically—without ever having to reveal their cards! (This is how successful bluffs win).
2. The Show (Showdown): When all players except two have folded, one player can pay for a Show. Both players flip their 3 cards face-up. The player with the higher-ranked hand wins the pot according to standard hand rankings:
   • Trail (Trio): Three of a kind (e.g., A-A-A).
   • Pure Sequence: Straight Flush (e.g., A-K-Q suited).
   • Normal Sequence: Straight / Run (e.g., A-K-Q mixed suits).
   • Color: Flush (same suit, not consecutive).
   • Pair: Two cards of identical rank.

• No Card Swapping: You cannot draw new cards. Your dealt 3 cards remain fixed.
• Blind Play Mechanics: Poker has designated Big and Small Blinds that rotate. In Teen Patti, any player can voluntarily choose to stay blind for multiple rounds.
